Countdown to Christmas!

By Lady DIY

Christmas is hands-down my favorite holiday. It’s the things that we do only for a short time each yearfamily traditions like walking and looking at Christmas lights with hot cocoa, making a special cookie recipe, or reading a favorite Christmas bookthat make this such a special time. Here’s a great way to celebrate holiday traditions this month.

Supplies Needed:

  • Cardstock (8.5” x 11”) – three pieces each of red and green
  • Holiday-patterned scrapbook paper (12” x 12”) – two pieces
  • Thin ribbon – two pieces, approximately 10” each
  • Red and green markers
  • Hole punch
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors or paper cutter

Step 1: With your family, come up with a list of 24 activities that you would like to do before Christmas. These could be yearly favorites, or something new.  A few examples:

  • Read a Christmas book
  • Make paper snowflakes
  • Watch a favorite Christmas movie

Step 2: Cut each of the red and green cardstock papers into fourths.  You should end up with 24 pieces of cardstock, each measuring about 4.25” x 5.5”.

Step 3: Cut each of the patterned scrapbook paper into 12 pieces, each measuring 3” x 4”.

Step 4: Glue a piece of patterned scrapbook paper to each of the pieces of cardstock, centering the scrapbook paper.

Step 5: On each of the cards, write one activity from your list.

Step 6: Punch two holes at the top of each card.  Stack the cards together, and thread the ribbons through the holes.  Tie a knot, but not too tight! It’s easier to flip the cards if the ribbon has some slack.  After putting the cards in a stack, you can go back and add dates. You may want to save more time-intensive activities for the weekends, and leave the simpler activities for school nights.

If you need some inspiration for activities, the internet search “advent calendar activities” will give you a ton of ideas!
